Candida Saliva Test

saliv

Do you have Candida? There is a simple test you can do at home to find out.

You may want to put a glass of water in the bathroom or on your night table the night before you wish to do the test just to remind yourself not to brush your teeth prior to spitting into the glass.

When you first wake up in the morning, before you put anything into your mouth, work up some saliva and deposit it into a clear glass filled halfway of water. After about 15 to 30 minutes, look through the side of the glass if there are any strings or deposits below the waterline.

If you do NOT have any yeast or candida concerns, your saliva should stay at the top of the glass and will eventually dissipate.

If you have candida, the test should look like the picture above. You may have all or only one of the elements shown here.

Love at First Bite

If you ever had to deal with bedbugs or other critters in your home, you know this is a serious matter. An infestation can cause anxiety, a feeling of shame and financial hardship. A bed bug infestation can happen to anyone regardless of which part of the world you live in and how clean your home is

Bed bugs are attracted to humans solely by the scent of blood, by warmth and carbon dioxide. If you are alive, warm and breathing then you are attracting bed bugs.

Bed bugs feed by sucking blood from humans or animals. The bite itself is painless and usually goes undetected because bed bugs inject an anticoagulant (a blood thinner) as they feed, which usually takes 5-10 minutes and makes feeding easier for the bed bug and less detectable to you.

If you develop some unusual red marks, hives or a rash on your arms, legs, face neck or other exposed areas – bed bugs may be to blame. These marks may be itchy and painful at first

Bed bugs are depending on finding a host to feed on. They prefer humans over animals and like to be undisturbed during daytime hours. They come out at night and suck the blood out of you while you sleep.

Be aware that bed bugs feed at night and that they prefer to stay close to their next meal. Regular checking for these pests, especially bedding, mattresses, head boards and any hiding spots near the bed is were you would find the first traces.

Keeping bedrooms uncluttered and tidy goes a long way to prevent bed bugs from moving in, although even the cleanest homes and the cleanest hotel rooms can be invested by bed bugs.

A regular house cleaning, including vacuuming of all mattresses, bed frames, headboards and fabric covered furniture can help to prevent an infestation.

Feeling Lonely – Hug a Tree

impact on our physical, mental and emotional health and can lead to many unhealthy ways of coping (e.g. overeating, drinking, smoking, etc)

Research shows that we are healthier and happier when we are close to nature. Gardening, planting, a walk in the forest are ways to relax and increase our mood.

Hugging a tree is another form of connecting to nature, a way to increase levels of the hormone oxytocin. This hormone is produced by the hypothalamus and secreted by the pituitary gland in response to hugging, touching, and creates a sense of empathy and trust. It can lower levels of stress and anxiety and is responsible for feeling emotional bonding and positive emotions.

Once you find the perfect tree, wrap your arms around it, hold on tight and don’t let go. Close your eyes and lean your cheek up against the trunk. Feel the wonderful flow of positive energy and relaxation.

Sugar and Spice

Sugar and Spice and everything nice, that’s what little girls are made of. How did this nursery rhyme become so popular? This poem, regarding little girls is commonly found in the Mother Goose nursery rhyme collections.

And it continues with: Sunshine and rainbows and ribbons for hair bows. tea parties, laces and baby doll faces, that’s what little girls are made of. Does this explain that little girls are naturally attracted to lollypops, candy and chocolates?

Yes – most little girls like lollypops and candy and chocolates too. Sugar is often used to reward children for good behaviour, to entice them to finish their meals or to show them affection. At first this seems pretty harmless and the reasoning that a piece of candy or chocolate can do harm is often dismissed and the practice continues and is re-enforced with every additional bribe or reward.

But what about the long-term effects and the dependency on sugar or sweet treats to their overall well-being. When children associate feeling happy and loved with sugar, with cakes, with ice-cream, with a variety of sweetened treats, this message is clear and re-enforced again and again.

Even the smallest of our children are exposed to the sweet taste of cookies, cereals and juices with excess amounts of fructose and sugar. How do we balance the feeling of accomplishments and achievements without setting the stage for the dependency on sugary rewards to celebrate? Without setting the stage for these habits to be formed very early in life and then have long reaching consequences later into adulthood.

Healthy Gums and Teeth

To keep your teeth and gums healthy takes more than regular brushing, flossing and mouth wash. Even regular check-up appointments with your dentist are not a guarantee for a healthy smile.

Tooth decay and gum disease are a common occurrence often due to unhealthy eating and just like the rest of your body it requires healthy nutrition with ample vitamins and minerals. When it comes to oral health sugars and acids in foods and drinks are the most damaging substances to tooth enamel, causing cavities and periodontal disease.

Green, leafy vegetables are a reliable source of nutrients, rich in calcium and folic acid and provide a variety of important nutrients for strong teeth. Vitamin D (fish oil) for calcium absorption and Phosphorus, found in eggs, fish, lean meat and dairy products, is great for building and maintaining strong teeth. Vitamin C to reduce inflammation – without C, gums become more sensitive and susceptible to bacteria causing periodontal disease.

Exposure to 12 Toxins Before Breakfast

dreamstime_m_10183013

Our environment is getting more toxic year after year. Most homes are now loaded with chemicals and toxins found in carpets, fabrics, pressed wood furniture, chemically treated substances, cleaning products and plastics.Even before breakfast the average person is exposed to a number of chemicals in soaps, shampoos, conditioners, toothpastes, mouthwash, deodorants, a variety of skin care products, cosmetics, hair spray, after shave, cologne and contact lenses.

In addition, the air quality inside our homes might be more toxic than the outdoors and residues from weed killers, fertilizers, bug control products, germicides and pesticides may be hidden in places not suspected to harbour them.

Pollution in the air, in our food and in our water, is at an all-time high and the average person is now the carrier of more than 200 toxins which our bodies are unable to identify and our immune system reacts to. These substances are often the reason for sensitivities, allergies and a variety of medical conditions difficult to identify.

We need to stop this exposure and look for safe and environmentally friendly substances if we want to avoid serious illness and enjoy good health and vitality.

It is a Toxic World

The Amazing Benefits of Oil Pulling

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Astonishing results have been accomplished by practicing the age old Ayurvedic tradition of oil pulling. The exciting factor of this healing method is its simplicity. All it takes is a tablespoon of cold pressed sesame, sunflower or unrefined coconut oil to get to some of the root causes of chronic conditions and health problems.

It is most beneficial to practice oil pulling in the morning before brushing your teeth, before breakfast – on an empty stomach. The art of slowly swishing the oil around the inside of the mouth and by sucking and pulling the oil between the teeth for five to twenty minutes, mixing it with your saliva, creates an interaction to activate enzymes needed to draw toxins from your body.

As the oil is being swished back and forth mixed with saliva, it becomes more watery and white and very toxic and under no condition should it be swallowed. Once the process is completed, remove the oil by spitting and thoroughly rinse your mouth afterwards to eliminate any trace of it. Normal activities can be resumed at this point.

For chronic conditions the oil pulling process can be repeated one or two more times during the day, but always on an empty stomach and before meals and always with proper rinsing afterwards.

One of the most striking results is the fastening of lose teeth, the elimination of bleeding gums and bad breath. The benefits can be far reaching since studies show that oral health is linked to general health and well-being.

Original Ancient Grains

Ancient Grains

Due to the interest in living healthier lifestyles there is a renewed interest in ancient grains. A rise in food allergies is making wheat and especially gluten one of the most controversial foods in recent years.

Research has shown that ancient grains often provide a richer source of nutrients suchas protein, Vitamin B2, iron, phosphorus, copper, selenium, manganese, magnesium, calcium, zinc and many others. They are also less likely to be problematic for persons with food sensitivities, but special attention should be paid to grains containing gluten. Ancient grains are more nutritious and have less likely been modified. In addition to the health benefits, many people like the taste of these ancient grains, such as quinoa, amaranth, kamut and spelt which are often distinctive in flavour, texture and diversity.

10,000 years ago these ancient grains were first cultivated in the fertile Crest at the dawn of the agricultural revolution and then introduced to Asia, Europe, Northeast Africa, India and Arabic peninsula. Ancient grains and seeds have come to us from past generations and remain true to their original form. Also known as heritage or heirloom grains, these ancient grains are just as nature intended them to be – simple and healthy. Most people limit their grains to wheat, barley, corn, oats and rice, but ancient grains can add variety to the diet and are worth exploring.

How Long Will You Live – 3 Tests

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Most people have a desire to live life to the fullest.. There are many parameters that may determine how long you live, however, this short article presents the findings of five researchers who identified three simple tests you can do at home to measure your ability to increase years to your life.

The medical paper published in the British Medical Journal in 2014 revealed a 13 year study where they took 1,355 men and 1,411 women in 1999 when they were 53 years old and then checked to see who was alive and well 13 year later in 2012.

The following are the three tests that were evaluated. Standing on one leg with your eyes closed for 10 seconds or longer, having a strong grip, and being able to stand up and sit back down in a chair many times in a minute.

According to the researchers of this paper, these tests clearly represented tell-tale signs of longevity. Performed well in all three tests at age 53 or so and you should be healthy and vibrant 13 years later, when you are 66.

Researcher from University College London estimate that a 53 year old who can complete these tests successfully is up to 5 times more likely to be alive and well at 66 than someone who couldn’t complete the tests or who did them poorly.

Officially the tests are called the Chair Test (Standing up and sitting down in a chair 39 times in a minute for a man, and 36 times for a woman), the balance test (standing on one leg for 10 seconds or longer with eyes closed), and the grip test (ability to apply a pressure of up to 54.5 kg)

The materials most likely causing the distress are the pillows and mattresses saturated with dust mites and other allergens after an exposure during time spent in bed. Often a runny nose, watery eyes or asthma like symptoms in the morning, are the results of a night long exposure of inhaling these particles.

Many of the pillows and mattresses in homes have been in use for periods of more than three years without proper cleaning and sanitation practices to eliminate harmful bacteria. The alternative to buying new expensive pillows and mattresses is proper care and protection. Read more…

Born With A Silver Spoon

silverspoon

Most people know the saying “Born with a silver spoon”. This means that the child would never want for anything. Since the 17th century the silver spoon symbolizes great fortune and privilege and prosperous individuals would present them to newborns.

The ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome have known for thousands of years that silver had anti-bacterial properties and used silver to control bodily infections and prevent food spoilage. Early American settlers dropped silver coins into their milk to kill bacteria and to keep it fresh until use.

Throughout the “Middle Ages” in Europe, it had been noticed that royalty, who consumed most of their food and drink from silver tableware, utensils and cups, tended to develop a bluish skin tone (Blue bloods). That was due to the silver that entered their bodies during consumption.

Furthermore the lower rate of plague related deaths among royalty led to the inference that silver has protective properties.

Doctor Talk

Doctor Talk

It is obvious that most of the information accumulated by your doctor comes from you.  Therefore you are best qualified to keep your own organized records in a notebook, file or on your computer. These records should include any allergies, sensitivities, unusual bleeding or discharges, pain or other symptoms experienced by you and any unusual events in your life such as trauma (physical and emotional), falls and injuries.

The next step is to look at all your prescriptions and to record all the details listed on the label, including dates, dosages, contra-indications and other recommendations. Next record all medical treatments, hospital stays, procedures, surgeries, dental treatments and doctor visits and the reason for these in details.

When blood tests or any other testing is required a copy of the results should be obtained by you and a proper explanation by your doctor should be given. It is often beneficial to review these tests results and  to compare them to normal ranges and values, giving you the opportunity to make lifestyle changes or add supplements before the issues become serious and must be treated with prescription drugs or surgery.

Keeping these records for you and your family does not eliminate any visits to your doctor but is very helpful in providing all relevant details when needed.

The Dangerous Triangle Of The Face

face Triangle

If you ever had some type of acne or zits in your facial area, especially around the area of the upper lip and nose you know it is hard to resist the temptation of squeezing and picking? We all want to look perfect and any blemish or pimple must be eliminated.

There is an area which starts from the outside corners of the mouth to the bridge of the nose, including the nose and maxilla (the area forming the upper jaw and the roof of the mouth) that forms the so called dangerous triangle of the face.

Due to the special nature of the blood supply to the human nose and surrounding area, it is possible for infections from the nasal area and the associated bacteria to spread to the brain, causing  symptoms to include decrease or loss of vision, bulging eyes, headaches and paralysis of the cranial nerves.

The dangers are due to the fact that the middle part of the face has veins outside and inside the skull that communicate with each other. These veins have no valves and allow a reverse draining system so the blood flows back to the parts of the brain.

Therefore, if you had a pimple and popped it open you may invite bacterial contamination leading to something as simple as a headache, eye problems, and fever or it could develop to more serious afflictions such as sepsis (a potentially fatal whole-body inflammation caused by severe infections) and muscle paralysis.

So – hands off when it comes to pimples, acne and zits in that area.

Ayurvedic Nutrition

Colorful healthy meal on white plate

In the ancient medical system of India we find use of the oldest and most time-tested approaches to nutrition. Its science of food and diet is an integral part of philosophy of man, of his consciousness and of his relationship to the universe. The result is an approach to diet that is unsurpassed both in its profundity and sophistication as well as in its practicality and simplicity. Here the selection and preparation of food is seen as inseparable from the treatment of disease and the cultivation of vibrant health.

Through its long history, it would appear that Ayurveda witnessed the rise and fall of many schools of therapy ranging from herbal medicine to physical therapy and massage, surgery, psychiatry, the use of medication, mantra and many other treatment modalities. Each of these were integrated into physicians practice, and the conceptual scheme expanded to accommodate them. As a result the school of Ayurveda has a breadth and a depth that could be unparalleled in the history of medical science.

This also made it possible for the Ayurvedic physician to develop, over thousands of years, an extremely complex and complete science of herbology and pharmacology. The science of nutrition is vast and comprehensive and is not separated from pharmacology and no distinction is made between foods and drugs, herbal and mineral substances.

The world of nature and the predominance of wild fruits, vegetables, herbs and game provided the Ayurvedic physicians with a rich store of foods having a wide variety of very specific effects. Our western analytical science of nutrition may have attained greater precision at the expense of a decline and loss of appreciation of the richness and versatility  of natural resources, both in the world of foods and in the world of human physiology.

Sexual Activity and Hair Loss

Older man with thinning hair

In Chinese medicine, which has its roots in Taoism, it is widely accepted that there is a direct correlation between kidney/adrenal health and the health of the hair. It has been recorded in both Taoist (Chinese) and Ayurvedic (Indian) medical texts for thousands of yearsthat there is a connection between sexual activity in men and hair loss. It is maintained that excessive emission by men during intercourse or otherwise puts tremendous stress on the kidneys and results in pattern hair loss for those genetically predisposed.

“With frequent emission of sperm vitality ultimately declines. The big spender loses energy, his vision begins to weaken, he experiences hair loss and grows old before his time.”  Taoist masters maintain that the conservation of male sexual energy will reliably prevent hair loss in those genetically predisposed, but is less likely to grow hair back that has already been lost.

It’s a vicious cycle indeed. If standard sex promotes hair loss, than losing hair over time will reduce your likelihood of having sexual encounters to begin with in the future. Those who choose to outright dismiss the connection between hair loss and sexual activity because there is “no evidence” should bear in mind there is absolutely no evidence negating this connection either.

Vaccination – Immunization

dreamstime_s_35096126-vaccination

Vaccination is the administration of antigenic material (vaccine) to stimulate adaptive immunity for a disease. Vaccines can prevent or ameliorate the effects of infection by many pathogens.

Inoculation is the placement of something that will grow or reproduce, and is most commonly used in respect of the introduction of a serum, a vaccine or antigenic substance into the body of a human or animal, especially to produce or boost immunity to a specific disease.

It can also be used to refer to the communication of a disease to a living organism by transferring its causative agent into the organism.

Today the terms inoculation, vaccination and immunization are used more or less interchangeably and popularly refer to the process of artificial induction of immunity against various diseases. The micro-organism used in an inoculation is called inoculant or inoculum.

Four different types of vaccines are currently available.

-Attenuated – (weakened) live virus is used in the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), polio and the chickenpox vaccine.

-Killed – (inactivated) vaccines are made from a protein or other small pieces taken from a bacteria. These vaccines are considered to be safe, even in people with weakened immune systems. Influenza shots are an example of this type of vaccine.

-Toxoid vaccines contain a toxin or chemical made by the bacteria or virus. They make you immune to the harmful effects of the infection, rather than to the infection itself. Examples are the diphtheria and tetanus vaccines.

-Biosynthetic vaccines contain human-made substances that the immune system recognizes as infectious organisms.

Most vaccines are given by hypodermic injection as they are not absorbed reliably through the intestines. Live attenuated polio, some typhoid and some cholera vaccines are given orally in order to produce immunity based on bowels.

Like many medications, there is always the chance that an immunization can cause side effects. To minimize chances of adverse reactions the health of the child (or adult) at the time of vaccination is of outmost importance. Read more…

Teeth and Bacteria

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

The presents of nutrients, soft tissue and secretions make the mouth a favorite habitat for a great variety of bacteria. At birth, the oral cavity is composed solely of the soft tissue of the lips, cheeks, tongue and palate which are kept moist by the secretions of the salivary glands. The eruption of teeth during the first year leads to the colonization of some bacteria which require a non-epithelial (non-soft) surface and will inhabit this area for as long as teeth remain. The creation of the supporting structure of the teeth increases the habitat for the variety of microbial species.

The complexity of the oral flora continues to increase with time, with more varieties to colonize around puberty. These bacteria benefit their host who provides nutrition and an ideal environment for these micro-organisms and these normally occurring bacteria make it more difficult for unfriendly invaders to become established.

To prevent serious damage, regular dental examinations and professional cleaning to remove bacterial plaque under the gum-line and daily oral hygiene practices are essential, including brushing, flossing and rinsing with salt-water solutions.

The Secret to Beautiful Skin

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

As skin ages, the rate of skin cell turnover slows down. The result is a dull, lifeless complexion. New skin cells are created in the lower layer, the dermis and over time cells migrate to the surface of the skin. Through the aging process the natural process of skin surface becomes uneven, which gives skin a dry, dull character.

A simple test you can do at home to see if you have surface dry skin cells on your skin is to take a piece of clear tape and apply it to the forehead. Rub it gently and remove. Look at the tape, and if there are little pieces of flaky skin, then you need to exfoliate!

Exfoliation is defined as the removal of surface dry skin cells and is considered one of the most important techniques you can perform on your skin to resolve many skin problems as well as to achieve a radiant and glowing complexion.

Exfoliation involves the removal of the outer layer, the oldest dead skin cells to reveal the newer skin beneath. Credit is given to the ancient Egyptians for the practice to  exfoliate skin with abrasive tapes  made with alabaster, honey and sour milk, and then used finely ground sand to keep the skin beautiful and silky smooth.

Exfoliation is achieved by either mechanical or chemical means and could be as simple as a bath sponge, a pumice stone for foot exfoliation, a natural bristle brush for full body exfoliation or a mud mask or fine scrub for the face.

Cleansing, exfoliating and applying moisturizer are the most important steps to a beautiful, healthy and naturally radiant skin.

Inability to Control Anger

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

The inability to control your anger can cost you more than you can imagine. People have thrown away their future and lives just because they “lost it” for a few moments. Most people with anger issues generally hate the fact that they cannot control their temper. Research has shown that many heart attacks are often triggered

by episodes of uncontrolled anger. Many homicides were committed when the assailant was enraged. Kids beat each other up in school and carry out shootings because they are angry.

The thing is anger is a normal aspect of life. As long as you involved with people and have some form of interaction with them, you will always find occasions for anger. Someone somewhere will rub you the wrong way intentionally or unintentionally.  However, it doesn’t have to lead to explosions of rage, insults, losing your temper, and bouts of mania. Everyone get angry once in a while, but there are people who get angry for just about any reason. They get angry without reason; everything just aggravates them, they are irritated at everything and everyone. Worse still, they tend to always express their anger in violent ways. Chronic De-Hydration

Chronic-De-Hydration

Most people think that de-hydration is something that happens to individuals under extreme conditions. But there is a chronic form of de-hydration that can happen over time when the intake of water is inadequate or reduced and more fluids are exiting the body than are being replaced. Dehydration is a condition when the body does not have enough water and fluids to

carry out its normal functions and  therefore may contribute to digestive disorders and constipation, fatigue, sluggish metabolism, low blood pressure, disorientation, urinary infection, weight gain and obesity, skin conditions and premature aging to name a few.

Three quarters of the human body is made up of water and requires a rather sophisticated management system. Throughout the day we constantly lose fluids as we breathe, sweat, urinate and through the bowels, which can easily be replaced by adequate water intake.

The first symptoms of dehydration include thirst, darker urine and decreased urine production. In fact, urine color is one of the best indicators of a person’s hydration level, clear urine means you are well hydrated and a darker urine indicates dehydration.

Although dehydration can happen to anyone, some people are at greater risk and severe cases require medical attention. Critical levels of dehydration may be experienced with fever, diarrhea, vomiting or excessive sweating, exposure to hot and humid temperatures and by people with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, the elderly, infants and children and can lead to delirium and unconsciousness.

The average adult requires a minimum of 5 fluid ounces of water daily for every 10 pounds of body weight and should not include sodas/soft-drinks, coffee or tea. Pure natural water is the best choice.
