Physical Attractiveness Suggest Fertility and Health

Physical Attractiveness Suggests FertilityOften physical attractiveness is a combination of many factors, and include universal perceptions common to all human cultures, as well as aspects that are culturally and socially dependent, along with individual subjective preferences. There are many factors which influence one person’s attraction to another, with physical aspects being one of them. Continue reading

Physical attractiveness is the degree to which a person’s physical traits are considered aesthetically pleasing or beautiful. The term often implies sexual attractiveness or desirability, but can also be distinct from the two; for example adults may regard children as attractive for various reasons.

Physical attractiveness is a characteristic that suggests fertility and health. These factors contribute to the probability of survival and reproduction for continuing life on Earth. Men, on average, tend to be attracted to women who are shorter than they are, have a youthful appearance, and exhibit features such as a symmetrical face, full breasts, full lips, and a low waist-hip ratio. Women, on average, tend to be attracted to men who are taller than they are, display a high degree of facial symmetry, masculine facial dimorphism, and who have broad shoulders, a relatively narrow waist, and a V-shaped torso.

In recent times, evolutionary psychologists have tried to answer why individuals who are more physically attractive should also on average be more intelligent, and have put forward the notion that both general intelligence and physical attractiveness may be indicators of underlying genetic fitness.

Wildlife Extinction Crisis

dreamstime_m_1890771Our planet Earth is experiencing a wave of mass extinction. Animal and plant species are disappearing at an alarming rate.

Although extinction is a natural phenomenon, it is usually limited to one to five species per year. At the current rate, scientists have Continue reading

estimated that we are losing thousands of species year after year due to human interference.

In the past, most mass extinctions were caused by volcanic eruptions, asteroid strikes, climate shifts or other natural disasters, the present situation is almost entirely caused by humans and is the consequence of changes to the delicate balance of eco-systems, our biosphere and habitats that include rainforests, coral reefs, grasslands, tundra’s, polar regions and local environments.

The loss or extinction of every species has the potential of leading to the extinction of other species interdependent through the ecology of their natural environment and it is clear, that thousands are at risk to disappear forever.

Amphibians such as frogs, toads are disappearing due to the loss of their habitat and water and air pollution. Declining bird populations confirm that many changes are occurring in response to human interference.

Butterflies, earthworms and 30% of the 1.2 million known species of invertebrates are at risk and threatened by water pollution, ground water changes and deforestation. Our rivers and oceans are polluted and many of the fresh water and marine habitats are endangered and at risk of disappearing

Even mammals – our closest relatives – the primates such as monkeys, apes and chimpanzees along with marine mammals such a whales, dolphins and porpoises are severely endangered and are heading towards extinction.

Can our planet be saved – can the human species survive?

Don’t Let The Bed Bugs Bite

materials, and the tiny adhesive eggs can be nestled by the hundreds in fabric seams. They spend only a tiny fraction of their life cycles physically attached to their hosts. Bedbugs prefer exposed skin, preferably the face, neck and arms of a sleeping person and they usually feed on their hosts without being noticed.

Bedbugs feed at five to ten-day intervals, and adult bedbugs can survive for up to five months without food. They are capable of surviving on domestic cats and dogs, though humans are the preferred host

Besides private homes they can also be found in apartments, dorms, hotels, library’s, taxi’s, buses, airplanes and similar places. They travel short distances or hitch a ride in someone’s luggage or clothing.

The recent reappearance of the bedbugs in North America is probably due to the fact that they never truly disappeared and contributing factors may be complacency, increased resistance to pesticides and international travel.

Check your bedding and mattresses regularly and at the first sign of an infestation call your local pest control professional.

Good night, sleep tight, don’t let the bedbugs bite

Microbes in the Gut

dreamstime_m_66660741Our digestive system inhabits approximately 100 Trillion species of bacteria. It is now being recognized as the most important area affecting our health and well-being.

Research has shown that healthy peoples micro-organisms are distinctly different from that of individuals suffering from a number of health problems, including digestive issues, anxieties, chronic illness and more Continue reading

serious conditions including cancer.

It has also been established that obese individuals have fewer of the good or healthy micro-flora than normal weight people and are therefore more prone to a multitude of health problems.

Micro-organisms in the human body outnumber human cells 10 to 1 and our health depends on that bacterial population and the ratio of good and beneficial bacteria to the harmful species found inside the digestive tract.

Many individuals are struggling with extra weight gain and the inability to eliminate these unwanted pounds and any have reduced their food intake to smaller portions without successfully reducing their weight.

The number one reason is that we have to feed our good bacteria in the gut to be healthy and resistant to any invaders. One of the best and easiest ways to accomplish that is to add supplements in the form of probiotics to your diet to strengthen your resident flora.

Another way to increase the good bacteria is to consume fermented foods, such as plain yogurts, kefir and any type of a variety of pickled and fermented vegetables such as sauerkraut, cabbage etc. and to consume fiber rich vegetables.

Stiletto Heels In High Demand

dreamstime_m_28665819There is no denying that high heels and platform shoes are in high demand and with the history of high heels dating back many centuries, there are some interesting facts about high heeled shoes and their origin.

Foot wear has changed through the centuries and the first stiletto heels date back to about 1000 BC. Throughout the years they took on various roles and besides having functional value they were an indicator of social stature and importance.        Continue reading

High heels are defined as a shoe that has a heel positioned higher than the toe box. In the past high heels have been a symbol and defined the differences between social classes and the sexes.  They have also served as a symbol of class as they made women’s movements appear more elegant by these elevated heels.

Stiletto heels are particularly associated with sexuality and the image of the “femme fatale”. They are often considered to be a seductive item of clothing and have been featured in popular culture in this context.

The slender stiletto heel staged a major comeback in the early 2000’s when young women adopted the style for dressing up office wear or adding a feminine touch to casual wear, like jeans.

All high heeled shoes give the illusion of a longer, slimmer leg, a smaller foot and overall greater height. They alter the wearer’s posture and gait, flexing the calf muscles and making the bust and buttocks more prominent.  it takes practice to create the illusion of a natural and balanced movement.

Wearing Stiletto heels concentrates great pressure and a large amount of force into a small area. This pressure is greater than that of the feet of an elephant and can even cause damage to soft flooring, including carpets and vinyl coverings. The stiletto heel is also most impractical for outdoor wear on soft ground, such as grass, sand or mud.

Dimples – A Mark of Beauty

DimplesDimples are considered a mark of beauty and loveliness. They are most prominent during wide smiles showing small folds or indentations in the fleshy part of the cheek. The truth is that dimples are actually genetic defects and are caused by shortened facial muscles. Continue reading

When some people smile, they have dimples in one or both cheeks. Dimples most often occur on both the cheeks and are rarely one sided.

This adorable facial feature is usually a genetically-inherited trait that is passed from one generation to the next.

Dimples are also linked with youth. Some children and youngsters show dimples at a tender age, but their dimples disappear when they grow up.

Transfer of dimples from parents to children occurs due to just one gene. Each parent provides one of these genes to the child.  So, if both the parents have dimples, the children have a 50-100% chance of inheriting dimple genes.

If, however, only one parent has dimple genes, the chances of the children inheriting the genes are only 50%. If neither of the parents has the dimple genes, their children will not have dimples. Dimples can be passed through multiple generations. The frequency with which a heritable trait is carried forth through genes is called penetrance.

But let’s face it – dimples are adorable!

Tongue DiagnosisTongue diagnosis is an integral part of taking a medical history in Chinese medicine. Chinese medicine practitioners believe the appearance of your tongue can reveal a lot about your health. Different areas of the tongue are believed to reflect the state of the different organ systems. If there is an unusual color, coating, and/or shape in a certain area, Continue reading

special attention is paid to the corresponding organ system.

In Chinese medicine, disease is explained by an imbalance of yin and yang and heat and cold in the human body. Chinese medicine believes that chronic imbalances will have a definite impact on the color and shape of the tongue body and the color and thickness of the tongue coating.

A normal tongue is described as light red in color with a thin white coating. The tongue should not be too wet and not too dry. The tongue should be without cracks or movement. It should not be too long or too short nor too stiff or too flaccid.

Tongue body color reflects the health of the internal organs. When the tongue changes from the normal pale red to very pale, dark red, purple or blue it is a clear picture of pathological changes in the body. Changes in the shape of the tongue body will indicate the severity or duration of the condition. Tongue coating can change quickly and will be a clear indication whether or not the nature of the disease is one of excess or deficiency.

Tongue diagnosis is an important part of the Chinese medical assessment, but as with any assessment method, the doctor does not rely on tongue diagnosis alone, but uses it as part to provide a complete picture of a person’s health

When the wisdom of Chinese medicine meets the technological advances of western medicine, we will all benefit.

Alzheimer’s Disease – Improve Memory and Cognition

approximates the body part, looking like it has left and right hemispheres. And it’s no surprise walnuts are nicknamed “brain food”—they have a very high content of omega-3 fatty acids, which help support brain function.” The wrinkles and folds mimic the neo-cortex.

Walnuts develop over three dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function. They may also help head off dementia. Recent study found that walnut extract broke down the protein-based plaques associated with Alzheimer’s disease. They found walnuts reversed some signs of brain aging in rats. Walnuts also appear to enhance signaling within the brain and encourage new messaging links between brain cells

Fibrillar amyloid beta-protein (Abeta) is the principal component of amyloid plaques in the brains of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Scientific studies suggest that walnuts may reduce the risk or delay the onset of Alzheimer’s disease by maintaining Abeta in the soluble form. Basically, walnuts had inhibited Abeta fibrillization. It is proposed that polyphenolic compounds (such as flavonoids) present in walnuts may be responsible for its anti-amyloidogenic activity.

Are your Earlobes attached?

earlobes-1We are all different and unique. Even though we share some characteristics with others and often with our family members. Every one of us has unique characteristics due to genes being passed from our ancestors and parents and due to some environmental influences.

One of these traits is ear lobe attachment. If the side of the ear lobes are directly attached to the side of the face – it is considered attached, if it is unattached it should form a free form loop. While most ear lobes can be easily identified as attached or unattached –not all earlobes fall neatly into either category, there is a continuous range from one extreme to the other, suggesting the influence of several genes

Since the earlobe does not contain cartilage it has a large blood supply and may be beneficial to keeping the ears warm and maintain balance. However, earlobes are not generally considered to have any major biological function.

Around the world and throughout human history, earlobes are the most common locations for body piercings and it is not uncommon to tear an earlobe by a traumatic pull or the weight of a heavy   earring. Ear piercing should always consider how it may affect acupuncture points located in various parts of the ear and lobe.

What is Consciousness?

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Consciousness shows up in our creativity and acts of free will, or when we make a moral decision. The spectrum of consciousness extends form universal consciousness to species consciousness to individual human consciousness, to organ consciousness and may exist at the molecular and atomic levels as well. Continue reading

In behavioral psychology, which is based on materialistic science, the opinion is that the mechanism of the body determines even thoughts of the mind. This point may be considered from a purely logical angle of vision. There is what is called intelligence, which is an expression of the body, a creation of the brain, or a kind of phenomenon that is projected by the material forces, but how then can we explain the appreciation of beauty, or an adoption of ethical conduct.etc.

The morality of an individual cannot be said to be the morality of the flesh, the heart or any other part of the body. Quantum physics tell us that consciousness is the ground of all being. Matter, vital energy, mental meaning are all quantum possibilities of consciousness. If we could erase the mental concept that we are separate from one another, we could collectively benefit and rise into unity consciousness.

A World Without Microbes

microbesA world without bacteria may seem ideal at first. But the more we think about it, the more we realize that we cannot live without microbes.

There would be no food poisoning, no diarrhea, no coughs and colds, no sore throats, no tuberculosis, no cholera, no small pox, no polio, no sexually transmitted diseases. There would be no decay. Foods would not get spoiled and we would not need preservatives, refrigeration and wasteful packaging.

But if nothing decays, what happens to all the plants, animals and people at the end of their life-cycle? They would be preserved forever.

Microbes are essential to humans and the environment, as they participate in the Earth’s carbon and nitrogen cycles, as well as fulfilling a vital role in our digestive and immune systems.

Although each individual microbe is an almost weightless, one-celled organism, microbes account for most of the planet’s biomass – the total weight of all living things. With their collective strength, microbes control every ecological process, from the decay of dead plants and animals to the production of oxygen.

No part of Earth escapes the influence of microbes, the oldest living organism. Self-sufficient, invisible, mysterious, deadly – and absolutely essential for all life, they are the Earth’s bacteria. No form of life is more important and no form of life is more fascinating. No other living thing combines their elegant simplicity with their incredibly complex role – bacteria keep us alive, supply our food and regulate our biosphere. We cannot live a day without them, they are our partners, even though some of them, under the right conditions, will kill us.  Read more…

Telomeres and Aging

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Aging is a complex process associated with the accumulation of damage, loss of function and increased vulnerability to disease. The goal of all medicine and especially longevity science, is to enable people to be younger for longer. The best way to prevent disease is to have a strong immune system and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Continue reading

We plan for nearly everything in life and the energy we put into planning a vacation or celebrating a major event seems to be more important than addressing signs of aging and the idea of prevention. When we get to a stage of not functioning without prescription drugs for memory, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, brittle bones, painful joints, low energy and other chronic conditions, we still ignore the damaging effects of an unhealthy lifestyle and environmental exposure to stress and toxins.

Many recent scientific studies have shown telomeres to be associated with age-related decline and dysfunction. The length of the telomere on each and every cell in our body determines our health and rate of aging. With each replication of our cells these strands get shorter, a process accentuated by environmental, physical and emotional stress. Eventually the telomeres get too short, the cells die and our bodies get older and health declines.

A purified molecule from the Astragalus plant is proven to activate the enzyme telomerase to lengthen short strands of telomeres, restore an aging immune system, increase bone density and improve various bio-markers that usually decline with age.

Chocolate Grows on Trees

chocolate treeChocolate – comes from the seeds of the cacao or chocolate tree. The Greek name is Theobromacacao Linnaeus and means the food of the gods.

The chocolate tree produces large pods containing 30 to 40 bitter seeds imbedded in a sweet sticky pulp native to the deep  tropical  regions of Central and South America. Continue reading

The sticky pulp was a staple food of the Mayans 2000 years ago and both the Mayans and the Aztecs used the seeds to make a chocolate drink.

Once the pods are split open and the cacao beans removed, they are then fermented, dried, and roasted to develop the bean’s flavour. Fermentation activated enzymes that create the beginnings of chocolate as we know it.

Why do some foods like chocolate, wine or cheese taste so delicious? Fermenting magically transforms their original ingredients into something more desirable. Besides improving flavour, some soured and fermented foods such as yogurts, kefir and sauerkraut also strengthens the immune system.

DNA – The Genetic Blueprint

dreamstime_s_33103768-DNAAt the center of every living creature on the planet is a blueprint of its genetic makeup. This is called DNA and it influences everything from the organisms’ physical structure to its appearance and even its mental processes. It is interesting to note however, that for all our vast Continue reading

differences, our DNA is actually a lot more alike than different. However it is those slight disparities that make humans so different from animals.
Given the vast physical differences between humans and animals, it is interesting to note just how similar DNA is, a code comprised of 4 nucleotides or types of molecules known as adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine.
In each and every single creature, the order of the previously mentioned adenine, guanine, cytosine, and thymine are switched around and this order will determine what the organism will be, and how it will work. Depending on this arrangement, the organism may develop scales, appendages, skin, and various other body parts and features.
There is basically no difference between human and animal DNA except for its underlying codes and the actual amount of DNA present, which may vary from species to species and in the order in which the code is assembled

Falling in Love

dreamstime_s_28706973-Falling in LovekissingTo fall in love usually means to enter an intimate relationship casually and blindly without the usual
precautions. Falling into a love relationship also means failing to take the time to evaluate the character, personality and history of the target of your affection, neglecting to measure compatibility and whether the foundations exist for a healthy lasting relationship. Falling in love often is a sure path to tragedy.                          Continue reading

It is easy to understand why one may be attracted at first sight to another human being of the opposite sex by way of a shared appreciation of certain things or mutual interests. However, the physical attraction alone may be the only basis for this affection and circumstances beyond the individuals control come into play.

In most cases physical attraction plays a major role and this feature has a more frequent impact on the male observer being easily distracted by a vibrant, vivacious younger female.

The female counterpart although as easily distracted by an attractive male has additional requirements to take into consideration. At times it is the alpha male attitude or the bad boy image that is most appealing to a younger female but may change later to incorporate a taste for social statues and power positions in the workplace or the public arena.

Another consideration is the safety and security factor when a life partner or potential parent for a desired child is evaluated. This would include many additional traits, such as stability, commitment capability, maturity, devotion and the ability to financially and emotionally enter into a very intimate and demanding relationship.

Jet Lag Syndrome

Jet Lag SyndromeJet lag syndrome, also known as “time zone change syndrome”, is a common problem associated with airline travel across multiple time zones. The majority of individuals traveling across 5 or more time zones will experience jet lag to some degree. Continue reading

Jet lag is the result of a rather sudden mismatch between the body’s own internal clock (circadian rhythms) and that of the environment around us. The body’s circadian rhythms usually cycle somewhere between a 24 to 25 hour time period and tell us when it is time to go to sleep and when to awaken. These rhythms are reset daily

A Cup of Tea

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Just imagine sitting back with a cup of tea to relax after a hectic day or taking a break in the middle of the afternoon. The health effects of tea have been studied for many centuries, ever since the first infusion of  Camellia sinensis about 4700 years ago in China. Continue reading

Tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis bush and all teas black, green, white and oolong come from the same plant with different processes such as oxidation period and fermentation.  Herbal tea’s are not considered a true tea because they are not made from Camellia sinensis. Herbal teas are brewed from flowers, grasses, and herbs.

Fresh tea leaves are a  rich source of phytochemicals  that have potent antioxidant properties. In fact, tea is one of the highest sources of antioxidants in the North American diet.  These antioxidants detoxify free radicals in the body, help to soothe stress and contribute to relaxation. The main catechin found in tea appears to lower the risk of heart disease and numerous types of cancer.

Tea’s are considered a super food, whether black, green, white or oolong. The amount of  Catechins  will depend on the length of seeping  time  and the amount of dilution with water. Iced tea is a great substitute for soft drinks and sodas.
