Gradual changes to these earliest – the first form of life -cells resulted in new life forms which were no longer dependent on the same food supply as their ancestors, they were able to feed themselves by using the energy of the sun.

 Without the activity of these early organisms – the first form of life – the Earth’s atmosphere would still be without oxygen and the evolution of oxygen-dependent animals, including humans would have never occurred.
